創設から約40年経過し､整形外科全領域にわたる研究•教育•診療体制が整備されています｡

学内における学際的研究だけでなく、他大学との共同研究、産学連携の研究など多岐にわたる分野での臨床・研究を進めています。

年度別総手術件数、診療班別年間手術件数

1998年佛淵孝夫教授が赴任され、手術件数は下肢関節手術を中心に急激に増加しました。

2010年馬渡正明教授が赴任され、関節外科以外の上肢や脊椎の手術数も増加し、当科の手術総数は年間1500例前後となっています。(図１、図２)

2017年には股関節・膝関節を中心とした関節外科センターを開設し、全国の難渋症例を受け入れる拠点病院となっています。また、抗菌の人工股関節や脊椎インプラントを開発し実用化しており、学会でもオピニオンリーダーとしての役割を果たしています。世界標準の医療の実践、世界への研究成果の発信、そしてそれができる優秀な整形外科医の育成を目標に日夜、診療・教育・研究に励んでいます。

研究

(1) 抗菌作用を有した整形外科領域の人工材料の開発

bone-in-growthを促進するハイドロキシアパタイトと銀を複合化して溶射する技術を開発し、新しい素材を作成した。この新規素材の抗菌性や生体安全性などをin vitro、in vivoの両面から検証してきた。現在、この素材を使用した人工関節、脊椎インプラントが市販化されている。さらに銀の抗菌作用を再生医療へ応用することで、新たな素材の開発を継続している。

(2) 骨代謝研究

特定のタンパク質に焦点を当て、その骨代謝への役割をノックアウトマウスや細胞モデルを用いて詳細に解明する。また、間葉系幹細胞を活用して骨形成を促進する分子機序を探り、再生医療や骨粗鬆症治療の新たなターゲットとなり得る分子やその機序の同定を目指す。本研究を通じ、将来的に臨床応用が期待される革新的な治療戦略の基盤構築を目指す。

(3) 臨床研究

運動器疾患における慢性疼痛および周術期疼痛に関する臨床的研究を行う。変形性股関節症に対する手術治療の成績や満足度の評価、人工膝関節・人工股関節手術における手術支援装置の開発、脊椎転移や化膿性脊椎炎の集学的治療、AIを用いた骨粗鬆症の診断に関する研究を行う。また３次元動作解析装置（Vicon®）やスマートシューズを用いた周術期の歩行解析やAIを用いた歩容の研究も行う。さらに他科との共同・連携による臨床研究も推進している。
