年度別総手術件数、診療班別年間手術件数

1998年佛淵孝夫教授が赴任され、手術件数は下肢関節手術を中心に急激に増加しました。

2010年馬渡正明教授が赴任され、関節外科以外の上肢や脊椎の手術数も増加し、当科の手術総数は年間1500例前後となっています。(図１、図２)

2017年には股関節・膝関節を中心とした関節外科センターを開設し、全国の難渋症例を受け入れる拠点病院となっています。また、抗菌の人工股関節や脊椎インプラントを開発し実用化しており、学会でもオピニオンリーダーとしての役割を果たしています。世界標準の医療の実践、世界への研究成果の発信、そしてそれができる優秀な整形外科医の育成を目標に日夜、診療・教育・研究に励んでいます。

研究

臨床研究を主体に各診療グループで様々な研究を行っています。教室のテーマは抗菌インプラント開発、3次元動作解析装置（VICON）を用いた３D歩行解析です。

抗菌インプラント開発
2005年より佐賀大学整形外科学教室・微生物学教室・京セラ株式会社と協力し、抗菌性インプラント開発を行ってきました。保険適用も認められ2016年より「AG-PROTEXⓇ」として京セラ株式会社より販売されています。広い抗菌スペクトル、強い抗菌性をもちながらも、耐性菌を作りにくく低毒性という特性の無機系抗菌剤である銀を、優れた骨伝導能を持つハイドロキシアパタイトと組み合わせることにより、抗菌性能と骨固定性能を合わせ持つ画期的なインプラントです。 現在は臨床研究を行うだけでなく、その他の治療と併用した場合の効果に付いて研究を行っています。

3次元動作解析装置（VICON）を用いた３D歩行解析
医学部地域医療科学教育研究センター、附属病院動作解析・移動支援開発センターと共同で関節疾患患者の歩行解析を行っています。佐賀大学医学部附属病院内には全長５mの床反力計(Model BP400600, Amti Co. USA)と三次元動作計測装置(Vicon Motion Systems, Vicon Co. UK)を備えた動作解析システムが設置されており、特に人工関節置換術前後の歩行の研究を行っています。治療効果の判定を行う方法は数多くありますが、歩行を用いての評価は珍しく、国内外の学会にて報告を行っています。
